Now Seeking Participants for 2010 New Voices Program

The New Voices Board Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and mobilize a network of talented new board members from under represented Tulsa populations to serve in board leadership roles.  

 

Quick Facts:

  • This is a new program, only in its second year, administered by Leadership Tulsa on behalf of the United Way.  
  • The program is free to participants.
  • The program includes a full day retreat to learn the basics of board service as well as 4 quarterly breakfast sessions to enhance learning and connection.
  • Members of Class 1

     
    Each participant is assigned to serve on the board of a different UnitedWay partner agency based on his/her interest areas.  Class 1 agency assignments include:   Day Center for the Homeless, Street School, Campfire, Bridges Foundation, the Center, Parent Child Center, CASA, Tulsa Boys Home, LIFE Senior Services, YMCA, and the Salvation Army. 
  • Participants meet a variety of mentors active in board service.   

Now Recruiting Class 2!  Deadline for Applications June 1, 2010

Successful candidates:

  • Will offer a diverse perspective with emphasis on diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.  We are especially seeking African American, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander and Native American participants 
  • Have the commitment to serve the non profit sector in a leadership role
  • Have time and ability to successfully complete the board internship assignment, including support from employer
  • Have not previously served on more than one non-profit board of directors
